canaries

I have had a yellow canary for more than 11 years. It seems happy and sings. Interacts with my family. My children would like to get another canary to interact with our existing bird. I’m concerned he’s so old and accustom to being alone it might upset him.
What are your thoughts and recommendations?

Answer:

Hi Elizabeth,

I would not put another bird in the same cage. Canaries sing to attract a female. In your case it sounds like he has bonded with the family and is a happy bird. Bringing in another canary, even in its own cage, might cause stress. He almost definitely would view anther male as a rival. At his age it’s best not to make big changes for him.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
