Feeding

Hi is it ok to mix seeds with pellets I. The same feeding bowl I have a separate one for fresh food

Answer:

Hi Sandra,

You can do this, but there are some points to consider. Pellets are 100% consumable. Loose seeds have hulls that the bird removes, and often the hull ends up right back in the food dish, so you will end up with good pellets mixed with empty seed hulls. The other problem is that most loose seeds are not very fresh by the time they make it to the shelves and have lost most of their nutritional value. If vitamins are added, the vitamins are lost when the hull is removed. We do make foraging diets that are nutritionally balanced the same as a pellet, but still contain whole ingredients. We use fresh, hulled, locally grown seeds along with other ingredients in our Nutri-Berries, Avi-Cakes & Pellet-Berries so that they contain 100% nutrition just like a pellet. Our foraging diets can be fed alone or along with pellets and since the seeds are hulled, these can be offered in the same dish as a pellet without leaving behind empty hulls when your bird eats.
