Help

My cockatiel always let me hold him and loves to interact with us. Now that we let his wings grow, he flies everywhere and wont let us hold him. As soon as we let him out of cage he flies away and takes forever to get him back in.

Answer:

Hi Mechelle,

The best thing to do is to have his wings clipped again. Some Cockatiels will get too wild and independent when they can fly. This is obviously what is going on here and the only real solution is another wing trim. Most cockatiels will need a wing trim after each heavy molt – about 2 per year – plus a couple more times – so around 4 clips per year. This works well because it is generally also time for a nail trim at the same time.
