Budgies

Should we have to feed the baby budgie which is hatched 2 days ago?or else will its mother will feed it?

Answer:

Hi,

The parents will feed the chicks. If it is alive two days after hatching, then the parents are feeding it. Budgies are very hard to hand feed from day one, even by the most experienced breeder. It is best to leave the chicks with the parents and hope they do their job. If this is the pair where it is their first clutch, they may make mistakes with caring for the chicks. But they need to learn if you want them to be good breeders. Hopefully all will go well, and remember to take that nest box down as soon as the chicks leave it, and make the parents rest for about 6 months. The chicks can’t stay with the parents once they are weaned, eating on their own. You can’t let related birds breed, so they have to be separated from the parents and each other.

Thanks for the update,

Brenda
