We are sorry for the delay in replying to your questions from the Webinar What Should I Feed? Nutritionally Balanced Diets are For the Birds! Presented by Kara Burns. There was a death in Kara’s family and she understandably needed some personal time.
Hi Farah,
I recommend a pellet diet and offering fresh fruits (in moderation) and veggies. I also like Nutriberries (formed seed products). They are comprised of whole grains and seeds which are mixed with additional components and are stuck together. This is similar to pellets but this product is not ground. The bird must pick off the seed to eat.
Thank you,
Kara Burns
Hi Farah,
As Kara said, Nutri-Berries are nutritionally balanced the same as a pellet, but they are not ground up. They are designed to provide foraging exercise and the variety of tastes and textures that are more natural for a parrot. The seeds in Nutri-Berries are hulled, so that no added nutrients are lost when the bird eats the seeds.
Per your conure grooming, when they are molting, there will be a lot of dandruff type material falling away from the new feathers when he grooms. And you may also be seeing down feathers. But if this is something you are only seeing on one bird, then you might want to have him checked by an Avian Vet.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
