Canary diet

I realize this is very parrot centered but regarding a canary – how many regular dried mealworms in a week? Not gut loaded worms.

Answer:

Hi Mary,

Meal worms are fine for an occasional treat, since canaries do eat insects in the wild. They are particularly beneficial during molting or when bringing your birds into breeding condition. If you are not breeding your canaries, then offer meal worms very sparingly as they can be a hormonal trigger due to the extra protein. I think in general, a few maybe twice a week is good.
