My parakeet is about one years old now and I can’t tell if he/she is a boy or a girl
I have had my parakeet for a year and her nose is lavender, is she a boy? ?

Hi,
It sounds like you may have one of the pale/pastel mutations or a solid color like white or yellow? Unfortunately with those color mutations, you can’t really tell the gender by the cere color. The cere in those mutations is usually lavender and doesn’t change like it does for the other colors. So the only way to know for sure would be a blood test your Vet can do, unless the bird lays an egg! You can make a fairly good guess based on behavior. The males are usually more friendly and vocal, and are more likely to learn to talk. The females tend to be less tame and they don’t chatter a lot like a male. They often make more of a screeching noise. Of course these are just generalizations, so again it would just be a guess going by behavior.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
