Thank you for your response that was super helpful! I didn’t really mean I wanted one just to carry around on my shoulder, just because I thought it was a convenient way for me to carry them around at times when moving locations. I want to make sure I give the bird the best life. I just know they are really good companions! Sadly I don’t think I can just yet, as I am still quite young and living with other family members. But thank you again for all of your help!!

Hi Simon,
I’m glad I could help, and it’s good you are doing your research now. Too many people buy a pet impulsively. There are many ways you can be around pet birds and learn more about them, once the Covid restrictions have lifted. I became interested in pet birds as a child, and as a teenager, I worked at a local bird shop on weekends. I also joined a local parrot club. There are many rescues and sanctuaries, so maybe there is one in your area where you can volunteer. A summer job at a reputable shop that sells pet birds is also a good way to learn. As I mentioned, we have free webinars every Friday, which are available to view on Youtube. We also have just about everything you need to know on our website, including many articles from experts in bird care and behavior. These will be reliable sources, versus some of the advice you find on social media. It’s good to have a goal, and once you are in the position to get a pet bird, you will be well informed and ready to give him a great home. Here are a couple more links to get you started.
