Lovebird Behavior

why does my love bird continually want to crawl down my shirt?

Answer:

Hi,

This is very common with lovebirds. This is likely related to how they nest, which is most likely in cavities. Young lovebirds will dive into your shirt, or a pocket. When they are out of the cage, they will look for dark, cozy places to hide. The only problem with this is it can encourage egg laying with a female lovebird, and it can trigger territorial aggression with either sex. They will get into their little space and when you reach for them, you get a hard bite instead! So keep that in mind – if your bird is young now, then any issues will show up as he gets older. And some never have a problem – I’ve had a couple of lovebirds that rode around in my shirt pocket everywhere, but both were males. The males can be territorial, but the female lovebirds are more likely to be territorial.
