Hormone therapy for pet birds

How do hormone injections help the birds?

Answer:

Hi Marketa,

Hormone therapy is usually only for egg laying issues. Some birds, especially a single female, can get “stuck” in an egg laying cycle and continue to keep laying eggs until her health is at risk. Some females have a history of complications when laying eggs, such as egg binding or not being able to form a shell. When a bird’s health is at risk, then hormone injections or an implant is recommended. In general, parrots do not seem to suffer from the type side effects that may be common in humans.
