Crop ok?
My Indian Ringneck chick is 4 weeks old, this is my first time handfeeding. After feeding I notice his crop has red veins in it and the color is that of food. Is this normal? Also, any advice is welcome, thank you.

Hi Miya,
When you feed him, do not feed him too much. The crop should not be tight. It should feel like an under filled water balloon. It sounds like you might be feeding him a bit too much. The parents will stuff a chick, but what they feed seems to digest better. Formula can sour in a crop if it stays there too long, so it is better to feed less, more often. Yes, you can see the skin of the crop and the formula or anything he eats can be seen through the skin. It’s not super thin, but it isn’t thick, either.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
Brenda
