Breeding

My male cocktail is around 4-5 years and fully hand trained so we brought him a female cocktail who is probably around a year and a half and I think she wants to mate but the doesn’t. What should I do

Answer:

Hi,

Your female should not be put with a male until she is at least 2 years old. When she is old enough, you would have to see if they will get along. Often a hand tame bird doesn’t do well as a breeder. He can’t be tame and be a breeder. You would have to stay away from him once you put them together, to let him focus on her and see if he will bond with her.  But again, wait until she is 2 before you put them together.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
