My baby cockatiel


I have a baby cockatiel maby 3 to 4 weeks old I have it for 4 days now the first 3 days it was eating well by today just little by little and it looks fine to me it stil grooming it’s self and nibbel on my hand and fingers when I pet it I don’t know if it’s male or female it’s White and gray with white face …..and also it’s crop looks almost full is there anything I need to know please help ..

Hi Elize,

Cockatiels are a lot harder to hand feed than people think. In fact many States make it illegal to sell unweaned birds because so many die after they are sold. The formula has to be the right temperature and the right consistency. And the chick has to be warm enough, but not too warm. If the chick’s crop is not emptying, and it isn’t eating well, this is likely very serious. You need to take the chicks to an Avian Vet as soon as possible. If the food stopped digesting, there is a reason, and that needs to be addressed. But the food in the crop will have turned sour, and the Vet is going to have to flush the crop to save the chick, and then figure out why it isn’t digesting food. This is considered an emergency situation and isn’t something that can wait a day or more.
