Lovebird not eating

My lovebird is not eating the seeds provided and does not want to eat any formula.
He is 11 weeks old. I gave him doxybiotic-s just to make sure he is healthy.
He only eats when I put him and the seeds on me.

Answer:

Hi Tanja,

I would take him to an Avian Vet as soon as possible. It’s not a good sign when a bird stops eating. As for the medicine, you should only give medicine under the advice of a Veterinarian. What you gave him is a weak form of doxycycline along with very concentrated vitamins and is meant to be diluted in water and given to pigeons. It is highly likely that your little guy has been overdosed on the ingredients because he is very young and small. Many vitamins can be toxic if given in too high amounts. And the doxycycline is only intended for specific bacteria and would be ineffective in the amount included with this supplement. I would not ever recommend using this in any bird. Sadly, trying to treat your own pets with over the counter products is usually going to make things worse. He definitely needs to be seen by a Vet right away.

Take care,

Brenda
