Help a pigeon dove with one leg pulled off

A wild pigeon dove got its leg bitten off by my neighbors’ dog and there isn’t any vets that treat birds within my entire district. Is there anything I can do to help the bird with the pain and its recovery?

Answer:

Hi Aidan,

I’m sorry to hear about this poor bird. Please click the link below to try to locate a wildlife rehabilitator in your area. They will be able to help the bird. If there are no wildlife center or rehabilitators in your area. contact the animal shelter or any Vet and explain the situation. They will usually at least take a bird like that and humanely euthanize it, without charging you. This is not the type of injury that can heal without Veterinary care. The bird will be in pain, and will also end up with an infection and then it will die. If he can’t be helped, the kindest thing to do is let him be euthanized.

Thank you for helping this bird,
