canary hutch lefted by hen after 3 days of last egg laid
Should I purchase an incubator for the eggs?
I have read all articles, blogs etc. about canary breeding time.
I am honestly very distraught.

Hi Pamela,
If this is the first clutch, this is pretty normal. First clutches almost always fail. It’s sad, but the parents need to learn and usually don’t get things right the first or second time. Incubating the eggs is not an option. I don’t think they even make incubators that can handle eggs like that. And then if the eggs hatched, you could not keep the chicks alive – you would need the parents or another pair to feed them. You can’t handfeed something that small, and it wouldn’t survive anyway. And the eggs may not even be fertile, even if the pair mated.
I know this is upsetting, but this is something you have to be able to deal with if you want to breed birds. If you find it too hard to lose eggs or chicks, it’s best to just not give them a nest and not try to breed them. Breeding birds is not easy, and clutches can fail for a lot of reasons. Sometimes even if the eggs hatch the chicks do not survive. It’s something you have to think about and decide if this is going to be more upsetting for you than rewarding. When you breed birds, you have to understand that you can do absolutely everything right, and still not end up with any chicks. It’s just not easy. It’s certainly exciting when things do go right, but you have to be able to handle the sad with the good.
Take care,
Brenda
