White finch sitting alone

I have 4 finches one finch sitting alone during night time. And all three sitting together in the pot. Day time also the one is not mingling with the others. It looks so lonely. Please suggest what to do

Answer:

Hi,

The first thing to do is remove the nest or whatever they are all sitting in. They do not need a nest unless you are breeding them, and you can’t breed them with more than one pair in the cage. If you had planned to breed, then you need to remove two birds and only have one pair in the cage. Otherwise, do not let them nest in anything. If they sit in the food bowls, remove the bowls and replace with smaller ones. Nests are only used for breeding – they do not sleep in a nest in the wild. Once you remove the nest, they should become more social towards the other bird. My guess is your white bird might be a male, and the other three are 2 females and a male. The male has claimed the 2 females, and this left the white one out. He is exhibiting nesting and territorial behavior which was caused by having a nest. Without a nest, all of the birds should be less territorial. If they do not accept the white bird after a while, there is nothing you can do about it. But he is safer without there being any nests because the other birds aren’t likely to act territorial.
