How do I set up heating lamp for a 4 to 5 week cockatiel

I have a 4 to 5 week old lutino cockatiel. I got it a few days ago and I was wondering how I would setup my heating lamp. I do not have a thermostat available and it would take weeks to get as I live in an area that has none. So how high up should my bulb be and what watts should the bulb be in theory

Answer:

Hi,

Unless you keep your home very cold, the bird does not need a heat source. Heat lamps are not ideal, because some are coated with a chemical that gives off toxic fumes when it gets hot and can kill the bird. A heating pad set on low, under the cage is better. But at our bird’s age, it should have all of its feathers and again, not need a heat source. You can cover part of the cage to protect him from drafts if needed.
