Infertile eggs

My canary recently laid four eggs. After 5 days, I candled them, and only one was fertile. Do I remove the infertile eggs?

Answer:

Hi Batz,

No, never remove any eggs while the pair is nesting. The rest of the eggs still may be fertile. They usually do not lay all of the eggs in one day. And each egg does not even begin to develop for 48 hours, so at 5 days, most will not look fertile yet. The one that looks fertile was probably the first she laid. It’s best to leave the pair alone and not keep checking the eggs. If this is their first time, they may get upset and abandon the nest. And even if some do not hatch, they provide protection for the chicks as they hatch.
