A budgie or any female parrot can lay unlimited eggs without a male or without mating. Most will lay the normal clutch size for the species. With budgies, this will be 6-8 eggs, with one day between each egg. The pair isn’t going to be mad because you broke it – they really don’t understand this concept. However, breeding birds need to feel like they have a safe, private place to nest. If you interfere too much, they may decide they do not have a suitable nesting place. It’s best to give them plenty of privacy and just let them do what is natural. If this is their first clutch, it is best not to try to handle the eggs or look in the box because first time parents are more nervous and may abandon their nest or eggs if they feel threatened.
