Hi Bonnie,
Is he an older bird who is less active? Does he just like the one perch to sit on most of the time? Is it by any chance his highest perch? It’s not unusual for a bird to get a pressure sore if they tend to stay in one place all the time. The flat perch might be allowing him to rock back, rather than sit correctly on his feet. But he may be in the early stages of arthritis or some other issue that makes him more comfortable being off his feet or the one foot. You can wrap the perch in Vet Wrap and that is something that is easy to change out and will give him some relief. If this is the highest perch, try changing it with another perch and see if he still prefers the flat perch when it is lower, or goes to the new highest perch. That will tell you if he is doing this for comfort or because that naturally prefer the highest perch. Even if he isn’t a senior, he might benefit from our Senior Bird Nutri-berries if he is possibly having some joint or tissue pain. See how he does with these changes and if the wound continues or gets worse, consult with your Vet again.
