Parakeet Fights

Hi Our female parakeet and male parakeet are fighting really bad, there was blood. She has three eggs that have hatched, she runs in and out to feed them. However the fighting with the father parakeet has gotten worse. I would like to remove him for his safety. Can I?

Hi Diane,

Yes, you definitely need to remove him or she might kill him. For some reason, captive female parakeets will do this sometimes. It’s probably best to not let the pair breed again, if they can be together after the chicks are gone, because she is likely to do this again.
