Hello, i went to a pet shop 2 days ago and asked for a pair of birds that can get along together at the same cage, they gave me a male canary and a female finch and i got a big cage with enough space for both of them as they told me, the question is that the male canary keeps going for the female finch embarrasing her sometimes, is that normal or should i separate them as i havent had any experiences with birds before. Thanks for any help !

While a canary is a type of finch, they are much larger and have a tendency to be aggressive to small finches, sometimes killing them. I would not have recommended them as birds to cage together. Even in a walk-in type aviary, the canaries will bully the finches. I would recommend returning one and with have two finches or two canaries. You can get the same sex, but if you have no interest in breeding them, just do not give them a nest. Birds only need a nest for breeding – a nest is not a bed. I’m sorry these birds were recommended, and some odd couple do OK together, but I don’t think they should have been sold to live together. In fact someone wrote recently about their canary killing one of their finches.
