Baby Lorikeet constantly screaming even when weaned

Hi Labefer, sorry for the constant questions, but continued from my last post, I started weaning the baby rainbow lorikeet i have and she already can eat nectar from a dish by herself and doesn’t demand handfeeding. However, I still have the problem of consant screaming whenever she sees me. Will this go away once fully weaned? thanks!

Answer:

Hi,

Questions are always welcomed. Yes, just be patient with her. It’s a tough transition because they are supposed to beg to get fed, then suddenly they aren’t supposed to do this. Try leaving the room when she gets too demanding, and then returning as soon as she is quiet. Other than handfeeding her, do not reward the begging or calling. Otherwise she will associate it with getting attention. Everyone has a hard time during weaning, and some birds take longer to give up the begging than others. She should start getting more curious about what she can eat on her own, and what toys are in her cage.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
