Bathing

Why does our kakariki flap wings when taking a bath

Answer:

Hi Denis,

This is how most birds bathe. Flapping the wings helps to distribute the water over their wings and under their wings to get on their entire body. Also if bathing in the wild, they often do this is the shallow area of a body of water, so their outstretched wings can keep them from drowning if they end up in deeper water.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
