Night behavior

So my conure whenever I’m in bed with him (not sleeping or anything just relaxing) and I just like usually let him do whatever he wants sometimes he suddenly gets really scared and heads straight to my neck and tries to get in between there. Like he tries to hide himself in my neck or armpit. And my room is very very small and the curtain is closed so nothing could be seen. Idk if he sees something or hears but usually there’s just cars passing by. He’s only 3.

Answer:

Hi,

I really don’t think this is a fearful behavior. This is actually more like a hormonal behavior or even just a playful behavior. He could be practicing instinctive behavior to hide from a predator, without realizing what he is doing.  Conures love to hide, but that often leads to nesting behavior. It’s not as much of a concern with male birds, but it could lead to aggressive behavior or even a medical issue if he gets obsessed with wanting to mate. He’s at an age, that it’s better to discourage this type of behavior and divert his attention to playing with a toy or foraging for food.
