droppings odor – Dr. Tully Webinar Feb 24

My 31 yo CAG has very smelly droppings for almost a year. Culture was negative. Had Clavamox & Benebac Plus – didn’t change anything. His behavior is normal=no overt signs of illness. Any OTC treatment to try? Thee is no avian vet in our area within 150 miles. He has had some general care with local vet. Thank you for any suggestions.

Answer:

Hi Barbara,

Here is Dr. Tully’s response:

If there is no bacterial organism isolated your veterinarian may want to do a fecal Gram’s stain to look for yeast organisms in the stool. If they are there it could be treated with nystatin. See if there is anything different you have been feeding since the droppings have been smelling. Also you can try a probiotic such as Benebac to see if that may help.
