My bird is lying on the bottom of the cage

My bird sometimes during the day lies on the cafe floor . He does that and idk why he just closes his eyes. When i give him food or give him a toy he is playing with it means he is interacting but it worries me seeing him lying on the cage with his eyes closed. When he does this , his partner comes and protects him from letting me touch him. His partner also comes and looks at him for a bit and then goes back to what she was doing. Why is my bird showing such behaviour?
P.S- she is perfectly normal other times of the day

You didn’t mention the species, so I can’t tell you if this is something this species does sometimes. Generally it is not normal and can be an indication of the bird not feeling well. If you let me know what the species is, I can give you a better response.
