Cat bite

How long should I keep my kakariki in his cage after a puncture wound by a cat

Answer:

Hi Rachael,

Have you taken the bird to a Vet? Cat bites are almost always fatal for birds unless they are put on antibiotics immediately. Often they still do not make it. Cats have bacteria in their mouth and on their claws that is deadly to birds. Even a slight scratch can cause death. A puncture wound is extremely serious, so if you have not taken the bird to a Vet, you need to take it now. I cannot stress how serious this is. As for staying in the cage, the bird should be fully healed before being allowed to get too active.

Take care,

Brenda
