placing budgies cage outside

it has been hot where I live ( Upstate NY) so I have been putting my budgies cage and all outside ( I have 6 budgies divided into 4 cages ) but where they have to go is on the deck in full sun is it okay that I keep a cover on the top of their cages to protect them from the hot sun or will this make it hotter for them, there is usually a small breeze blowing.

Answer:

Hi,

They definitely need shade. Birds will die from heat more quickly than from cold. If it’s really hot outside you should not put the birds outside. It’s too hot for them, and too much of a temperature change from inside to outside.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
