My Lovebird

Can i put a proper nest in the cage after she laid a egg in the cages floor? It is laid put with newspaper

Answer:

Hi,

If this is a single bird, then of course the egg won’t be any good. You should never provide a nest for a single bird because egg laying should be discouraged.

If this is a breeding pair, and they are at least 2 years old, then you can give them a nest box. This will be a large wooden nest box that should be attached to the outside of the cage as high as possible. You can place the eggs in it to encourage the pair to use the box. It is unlikely they will hatch these eggs, but once they get used to the box, they will hopefully use it next time.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
