Male bird always at nest

I have a pair of finches and 1 nest fir them they are breeding but haven’t lay a egg also only the male finch sits in the nest and the female sits out side of the nest famale finch bird doesn’t get inside the nest

Answer:

Hi,

Are these Zebra finches? Is there any chance you might have the male and female mixed up? Normally the female spends time in the nest and the male sits on top of it to guard her and the nest. Regardless, there isn’t much you can do except give them privacy and hope they figure things out. They prefer the hut style nest, and it should be attached as high as possible, leaving just enough room for the male(usually) to sit on top. They should also be at least 12-18 months old for breeding. Just be patient and give them time. Most finches figure things out. It usually harder to get them to stop breeding than to get them to start!
