My african Grey Parrot

My African grey parrot is 7 years old and two days ago, I found him being unable to place his grip on the perches like he always does. We took him to the vet and the Vet said he has very weak joints that can’t support him and vitamin deficiencies and Prescribed Calcium and other supplements. It is day 3 and I can’t say if it had improved or not. But he Eats like he always does, flies and vocalises, preens and does things like before. I am worried. Please Help Me.

Answer:

Hi,

We cannot give out veterinary advice, and really there is no way for us to know exactly what his problem is. There are many possible causes for weakness in an area. If you are unsure of the Vet’s diagnosis, then you should definitely get a second opinion. If his problem was caused by poor nutrition, then you need to correct this before you will notice any improvement. He should be on a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets, along with greens, veggies & fruits. As for his symptoms, please watch the webinar below so you can better understand why tests are needed to diagnose a bird.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
