Question about regurgitation

My parakeet has been regurgitating. Something bothers his throat, he might be vomiting but seconds later it goes away. On March 02 I gave him Baytril 0.06ml..he got well now he is getting it again. Should I give him that medicine again? It still is not expired. What can I do?? Any foods I can give him?? He does perch and yesterday he ate a bit and flew a bit. He doesn’t regurgitate all day. Can he get better??

Answer:

Hi,

You should never give your bird any medication unless prescribed by a vet, for the current problem. A Vet usually gives you all of the medication that is needed for treating the bird, so you should not have any left over. If you do not give all of the medication, the bird can get better for a while, and then get sick again. Each time you medicate with the wrong medication, or for just a few days, the bird gets sicker and it makes it harder for a medication to work. If you feel your bird is sick, you need to take it back to the Vet and do not keep giving it medicine that was left from another time.

It’s very possible they he is hormonal and the regurgitating is a hormonal behavior. But since you have medicated him, his system may be off balance. I would take him back to the vet to make sure nothing else is going on.
