Budgies

My budgies are mated and almost 3yo
The male budgie is used to cracking their eggs, and now they had a single egg and he kept trying to get into the nesting box but the female won’t let him. So i separate them after few days, but placed the two cages next to each other so they can talk and hangout together.
Its almost time for the egg to hatch, so should i return them together or would the male kill the baby?

Answer:

Hi,

You can try to put him back but you need to watch really closely. The female may not let him back in the cage or nest box. I would not let this pair breed again. It’s too hard on the female to try to do this by herself. The male helps out, and in this case, this male is not a good breeder. If this egg hatches, take the nest box away as soon as it is old enough to leave the box, and retire this pair from breeding. The male is not going to stop breaking the eggs.
