Budgies pinching each other

Hi, I would like to know why one of my budgies pinched and dropped the other one. She likes to bother my other budgie, and today she pinched her and dropped her. Is it because they’re both female? What can I do about it?

Answer:

Hi,

Most of the time you can keep two females or two males together. But female budgies can get territorial, especially if she starts laying eggs. It sounds like the one is bullying the other, so you will probably have to separate them. Some harmless sparring is fine, but if one bird clearly bullies the other, it’s not a good match. The bullied bird ends up being stressed all the time. It’ important that they do not have any bird huts or tents, boxes or anything to use as a nest. And you should always have a food and water station for each bird in the cage. You might try this and see if it helps, and if not, the separate the birds if the bullying is a regular thing.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
