Concerned about leaving two cocktails together.

I have a 5-month-old cockatiel. I am going out of the country for 7-8 days so i am thinking of leaving my cockatiel with my friend, who also has a 7-8-month-old cockatiel. Hers is a girl, mine is a boy. Will there be any problems if they live together?

Answer:

Hi,

They should not be in the same cage. As long as each bird is in their own cage, they can be in the same room. But to be safe, the cages should be across the room from each other and you shouldn’t let the bird interact with each other. You have no way of knowing if they would even get along, and both birds are too young to be with a mate. While nothing is likely to happen, you don’t want your friend’s bird to get hormonal and try to lay eggs at such a young age. It’s better to be cautious.
