xanthoma

I believe that my budgie has a Xanthoma he has a bulge around his vent area just like another of my budgies has but the thing is this budgie is only 8 months old and the other budgie is about 6 yrs old and a female is there any way that I can reduce this swelling. The one the female has seems to have reduced in size since she has been laying eggs.

Answer:

Hi,

You need to take the bird to an Avian Vet. There can be many causes for a bulge, and if it is some type of tumor, a Vet needs to determine whether or not it is a xanthoma or something else. It would be very unusual in such a young bird, unless the bird has really poor genetics or was bred from related birds.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
