My first sun conure

I recently adopted My first sun conure, and she is 6 months old. How easy will she be to train at this point in time?

Answer:

Hi,

Was the bird hand fed or tamed at all? If not, are you certain of the bird’s age? At 6 months old, the bird will still be mostly green on the back, and orange on the head and front. They develop the yellow as they get older, and will not have the full color until between 2-3 years old.

I’ll give you the links to our behavior and training pages. If the bird is basically wild, you have your work cut out for you. You need to be patient and not expect results over night. It may take weeks or months for you to gain the bird’s trust and be able to work with it. Some birds that were not tamed or hand fed as chicks may never be tame. If she is tame, and you only need to train her, you still need to be patient, but she should trust you fairly quickly and should respond as long as you remain positive and never try to scold or punish her.
