Cockatiel differences

I have two male cockatiels and over the course of a few months I have had them in seperate cages. A month later they are in the same cage and are doing fine but recently they have started to fight now and again. They’ve always seemed to be fine in each others presence but now if one of them gets close to the other they’ll go for the beaks or tails. Please could you give me some advice on what to do, many thanks.

Answer:

Hi,

Not all birds are compatible. They may get along when they each have their own cage, but sharing a cage may not be the best thing for them. If they aren’t interacting other than to fight, then you need to separate them. It’s very stressful for birds to be forced t share the same cage if they do not like each other that much. Maybe the cage isn’t large enough? Do you have 2 food & water stations at opposite ends of the cage? There is only so much sharing that should be expected, and there should always been as many food and water cups as birds in a cage. Again, if this fighting doesn’t stop, and continues to be their only interaction, you need to let each bird have their own cage again.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
