My bird is tammed to my hand but not always


My bird is tammed to my hand but if i near his cage his flying .. he most of time out of the cage all the time i change that in last 2 weeks by putting him in cage in sleep time and im willing to let him spend more time in cage .. another thing he is not whistling unless he is in top of the room away from me although he spend all the time with me on my head ,shoulder even when im lying down he stand on my chest and pillow so im not sure if i need to let him inside the cage to tame him or something wrong im doing ..

Hi,

When a bird is allowed to fly around or roam, he no longer needs you in order to be out of the cage. He is in charge of when you handle him. You can set some boundaries by only letting him out when you are handling. But there is still the issue of flying – which is good for him. However, you can have a slight wing trim done just to slow him down and that can help. New feathers will grow in the next time he molts. Please check out our pages on behavior and training.
