breeding

I have had a pair of bonded conures for a year, female 3-4 years old and male is 6-7. Sadie{female] laid 6 eggs mid Jan, 4 not viable and 2 hatched. One is now 20 days old and the other 18 days old. Now today she laid another egg! I know not good. Will she keep laying if I remove this egg ? I know this is very hard on her and I need suggestions and advice please

Answer:

Hi,

If the chicks have left the nest box, you need to take it down. If they are still in it, then remove any new eggs. If the pair starts a new clutch, they will ignore the older chicks and let them die. They need to focus on the chicks they have. Always remove the nest box as soon as chicks leave it, and once the chicks are weaned, they need to be moved to another cage. Then rest the parents for 6 months before letting them breed again.
