Bird Keeps Eating Eggs

For some reason our male bird keeps eating our female bird’s eggs, he starts chipping at them and when he breaks them, she throws them out. Why is he doing this? How can we stop it?

Answer:

Hi,

This is a really bad habit, and usually nothing can stop them. Younger birds are more likely to do this. If you let them breed under 2 years of age. That’s too young. They really need a couple of years to be fully developed physically and mentally. Young birds tend to just want to mate again – young males are bad about destroying eggs so the female will mate instead of caring for the eggs.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
