Male is a bully

I have two budgies, one male and one female. The male seems to be a “stalker” to the female, as if he’s in adoration with her, but when it comes to food and treats, he almost pushes her away, wanting it all or himself. (I always put celery, carrots, apples, etc. out for them). As much as he seems to “love” her, he seems to not want her to eat. Note: my birds are “free” in my office at home. They have two open cages, many toys and perches and they can fly free around the room.

Answer:

Hi,

Since your set up would not allow them to be separated, I would recommend having extra food stations on opposite sides of the room. He can’t guard every dish. For any multiple bird cage. I always recommend a food station for each bird, plus one extra. With a bully bird, try 3 stations as far apart as possible.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
