behaviour

I have 1 male cockatiel bird, and he is obsessed with my bathroom mirror and he does not like being manhandled and he hates being caged and he is full adult and he was a rescued bird he likes to eat people food even though I shew him away when I do cage him he will try to fly in a cage and when i do let him out he gets upset with me he likes to bang his beak a lot and i do try to get him to stop that but he does not listen to me

Answer:

Hi,

As the owner, there is no such thing as “My birds refuses to…” It’s up to you to understand his behavior and address issues. I would recommend hiring a pet bird behavior consultant such as Lisa Bono or Pamela Clark. If the mirror is causing him to act out, take away access. If he doesn’t want to be in his cage, maybe it isn’t large enough or doesn’t have enough for him to do like toys & foraging activities. I’ll give you the link to our pages on behavior and training to help you, and again, a behaviorist would be very helpful.
