avi cakes texture

purchased avi cakes from Petsmart today and since I have used this product for over 20 yrs now, I know what a fresh pkg feels like and this one was on hard side although just came in from petsmart warehouse and mgr insisted they felt fine. Of course, he had no clue as the date stamped was 10/2026 and I know these expire 12-14 mos out. I told him I will be returning if my birds dont accept them as they do not like stale food and neither do I or many other people. pls advise

Lafeber Product Storage Guidelines: Nutri‑Berries, Avi‑Cakes, and Pellets

To maintain freshness and ensure the highest nutritional quality of Lafeber’s Nutri‑Berries, Avi‑Cakes, and Pellets, follow these recommended storage practices:

• Use airtight containers — Store products in sealed bags or airtight containers to protect them from moisture, pests, and premature spoilage.

• Keep in a cool, dry environment — Place all food in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, humidity, and heat sources. Proper storage helps preserve texture, aroma, and nutrient integrity.

• Freezing is safe and effective — Products may be safely frozen to extend shelf life. Remove only the amount needed and allow it to return to room temperature before feeding.

• Do not refrigerate — Refrigeration is not recommended. The temperature and humidity inside a refrigerator can draw moisture into the product, increasing the risk of mold and causing the food to harden.

• To soften hardened product — If Nutri‑Berries, Avi‑Cakes, or Pellets become firm over time, you can safely soften them. Lightly dampen a paper towel, warm it briefly in the microwave, and place it over the product. Allow the steam to gently rehydrate and soften the food before serving.
