Twelve hour window before removing uneaten food

Hello, if the food is only good to leave in my birds bowl for 12 hours, should I put new food in when I remove any uneaten food at the 12 hour mark or is it ok to only offer food once per day for 12 hours and then leave the bowl empty for 12 hours?

Answer:

Thanks for reaching out to Ask Lafeber.  If the food provided is only safe to remain in the bird’s bowl for up to 12 hours, any uneaten portion should be removed and replaced with fresh food after that period. It is generally not recommended to leave the bird without access to food for an additional 12 hours while awake, as most pet birds require regular access to appropriate food sources throughout the day. Overnight fasting during sleep is normal, but during active hours fresh food or another suitable diet option should be available to help maintain proper nutrition and energy levels.
