2 females

My female cockateils is 2 yrs old Never laid an egg Would she get along with another female

Answer:

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no simple answer. Is this bird a tame pet? If so, adding another bird is not a good idea, because they tend to bond and lose interest in being a pet. If you do get another female, they may or may not get along. If they do get along, it’s likely that they will lay eggs. Just being with another cockatiel could be a trigger. So if this is to be a companion for her, you may as well get a male. You don’t have to give them a nest box or let them keep any eggs she might lay. But again, they still might not like each other, and the new bird needs to be at least 2 – don’t put a young bird with an older bird. If you just want another pet, then it doesn’t matter what sex, because the bird would need to be in its own cage to remain tame. They might get along outside of their cages, or they might not. There is nothing you can do to make two birds get along – they either will or they won’t. Never put birds together without having them side by side in cages to see if they have any interest.
