2 parakeet couples

Can I keep 2 parakeet couples in the same cage together?? I noticed the two males fighting today.

Answer:

Hi Tracey,

Parakeets can normally live in groups in a cage as long as you have an even number of birds, you do not provide any kind of nest, and of course the cage is large enough. There should always be several food and water stations to prevent fighting. Some sparring is OK, but pulling out feathers or drawing blood is serious and the birds should be split up. If your males are fighting and you do not have nests or nest boxes in the cage, then possibly the cage isn’t large enough for 4 birds. Again, unless you try to breed them, they will usually get along.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
