2 week old lorikeet

I have a 2week old lorikeet that for the last 24 hours has been pretty much non stop vocal. Mum and dad often leave the nest during the day to eat and rehydrate themselves once baby is settled but sure enough 10mins later baby is screaming again.. is this normal? This is both parent birds and my very 1st baby.

Answer:

Hi Candice,

Baby Lories can be very vocal, just like the adults. If they are awake, they tend to make noise. They beg a lot more than other parrot species. Hopefully the parents are feeding the chick well, but they should be since its been two weeks. Most likely this is just a typical loud lory chick. The parents may wake it up too often, since they are inexperienced.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
